Prologue 1

As the second year of MBA starts, the freshers along with the second year students are called to the auditorium for orientation.

The students take their seat with the freshers take the front seat while the second year students are made to occupy the above seats.

The principal speaks first followed by the HOD’s and then the teachers introduce themselves. A chance is then given to the freshers to stand up and introduce themselves.

One by one everyone stands and suddenly a sweet voice announces “ My name is Keerti Satyajit Pawar.”

When these words fell on Rudransh’s ears he’s heart skipped a beat, something that was definitely rare in his case because despite this being his second year pursuing MBA he hadn’t felt any kind of attraction towards anyone.

The voice continued “Daughter of a PI. School topper of Government High School, Pune and currently ecstatic to begin a MBA course in one of the most esteemed colleges in the state, Savitribai Phule College. Thank you.”

For the first time Rudransh had felt a kind of peace in his chest and a wave of happiness caused a smile to appear on his now brightly lit smile. For 3 long days he tried to find the girl, though he knew that she was in the same course as him and he even knew her name, destiny seemed to keep them away from each other.

On the 5th day after the orientation, when he had lost hope of finding her and thought that she had left the college, a new hope was lit by his friend who told him that she was sick and was not attending college because of the sickness and she was about to rejoin back from that day.
He ran to the second floor where the first year students were having their first class of the day.

On the way he heard the same sweet voice from the classroom and his world seemed to have come to a stand still. He stood mesmerized near the window staring at the prettiest face he had ever seen.

Later that day she approached his best friend Vrishank and shook hands with him and told them that she had been asked to take help of their group for they were putting up the upcoming farewell of the final year batch.

Day by day their friendship grew and both knew that they had something more than friendship between them. Vrishank and Keerti's best friend Vriddhi together made a plan to make them speak up and told them to meet them at a coffee shop close to their college. Their plan was a success and finally the most loved couple of the group was together.

Do u know what’s the best thing this college has given me?” Rudransh asked Keerti one day while they were sitting on the steps near the cafeteria area.

Keerti realised he was teasing her so she also played along, “The fact that you've met your math teacher? Cuz you seem to be so much in love with her name?”

He grinned a bit and said “ Ma’am is there but this college has also given me Vrishank, Vriddhi …..” He continued to name some of their friends and Keerti cut him in between and said “and ? ” “and … and my most favourite… favourite- this bottle

He looked at her sad face and slowly took her hand in his and whispered “ It’s obviously you na Keerti.” As he finished his sentence her most beautiful smile crept back on her face.

Soon looking around the premise he left her hand because the teachers were walking around.

“But there’s one thing that’s bothering me. You know my mother and younger brother stay alone in our Mumbai house and right now I earn money online and send it to them. So I obviously cannot stay her after 3 months as my 2 and a half years will come to an end but you still have a year left till you pass out. So…..”

“You know right what my answer will be? You should obviously go back to your mother Rudy. You haven’t visited her for the past whole year. They must be longing for you and it’s your responsibility to take care of her at this age.”

“But then what about us? Are we going to end-“

“ Nahh, I won’t leave your back so easily. You will come back to me the day your course gets over and then we’ll go together to meet your mother in Mumbai. As it is my parents are here in Pune itself. So pinky promise?” Saying this she extends her pinky finger forward

He smiles and entangles his finger with hers and whispers while staring in her eyes “I love you Keerti and I promise you I’ll be back to take you and we’ll have our happily ever after”

Her eyes moistened “I love you too” she whispered and hugged him.

The bell rang and they had to part.

Days went by and they had accepted the year of separation as they knew it was for the good of both of them. Finally the day arrived and Rudransh returned back to Mumbai.

Meera's dull and ageing face lit up the moment her eyes met the reflection of her son. Rudransh joined back to work and now after finally 2 and a half years matters were back in good hands.

Within a year's time he expanded the company, made a bigger name and his code name “ Maalik” became an entire brand on the streets of Mumbai.

Despite all of this the love-struck boy kept his promise and went back to pick Keerti up. They both went to her house where she introduced him to her parents.

Satyajit felt that he had seen a similar person somewhere or the other but couldn’t recall where. This was true because the sketch of a person with similar features had landed on his desk, this was sent by the Mumbai Police.

Both were heartedly accepted by her parents because after all though Rudransh carried the surname Chauhan, he was a true maharashtrian.

He had told them the ancient story that his great grandfather had taken his mother’s side surname so that he could get a job in the British India era and since then the name just remained.

Inspite of Satyajit being in the force Rudransh never feared him because Mumbai and Pune were miles away.

What shook them was the revelation Satyajit made, “ Guess what my children, you’ll now not be separated by the distance of Mumbai and Pune. I have got a transfer to Mumbai and have to report tomorrow itself.”

While Keerti was more than happy, she sensed some kind of anxiousness in Rudransh’s features.

He had indeed felt a wave of anxiety because there now would have been chances of this future father-in-law would be investigating his case. He brushed the feeling off and travelled back to Mumbai with them.

Both the families met and their marriage was fixed in about 7 months. Everyone was more than happy.

But this happiness was short-lived as in about 2 months time Satyajit was killed on one of his missions in the Maalik Galli (Street). Her mother Savitri went into a state of shock, hyperventilated and died shortly after Satyajit's death.

Instead of sitting back and mourning for her father, she decides to join the force and their wedding is shifted to a year later. She gives an exam and joins the Mumbai Police squad as an SI.

Soon with steady promotions because of her wit and analytical skills she was transferred to the SIT (Special Investigating Team) department of the Mumbai Police.

She went undercover to Maalik Galli but all she found was legal trade of ammunitions and luxury goods.

Though she knew there was more to it,  was yet to find the real Maalik of the area.

In this while she had distanced herself from everyone including Rudransh because of her undercover operations.

As their marriage date kept creeping nearer and nearer, she grew more sceptical about it. After her  father's death the marriage was postponed and within 10 months she became a Sub-inspector in the Mumbai Police.

Rudransh who was at the peak of his career, in which he was trading even with the Italians which was the most prestigious thing in their business, decided to keep Keerti at bay till his business demanded for the same.

The distance between them grew and somehow the love couldn't find them together. Though Keerti found solace in Meera as a mother figure, she still couldn't face Rudransh.

About 3 weeks down the lane Rudransh was allegedly kidnapped. The situation at the house became tense and Rudra and Keerti started to search for him like maniacs.
